Surrounded by listed buildings, including a Grade II church, the site is located in the Kensington Conservation area, in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.

Planning approval was gained for a new contemporary basement extension alongside other internal modifications. Providing a new bedroom, library, bathroom and utility spaces the new extension features an accessible linear light well and full height wall of glazed sliding doors.

Further amendments to the existing building echo previous contemporary interventions in the building’s original fabric. This includes a new ground floor of precast concrete and glass lenses provide a high quality environment and bathing the new subterranean level in natural light.

The scheme carefully considers a number of existing constraints; a well loved courtyard garden, a mature lime tree (protected by a TPO), a number of underground utilities and several party wall conditions are all coordinated with the approved design proposals.
